9 May 2012 - Garden Tour

I have spent the last two weeks trying to find a way to help my Hubby's family from New Mexico. I can't. There just isn't a practical way to help with a 5 hour drive. So, on Monday, David is put in for humanitarian orders. If the Air Force approves the move, and they should, we will move home to Dyess Air Force Base within the next few weeks. I think I am in shock. We bought a house in October and now we will have to let renters move in. It really sucks. My garden is starting to look like an actual garden. My flowers look pretty in the front yard. I can see the buffalo grass from my kitchen window. I just want to cry. But that is me being selfish - it is just a house and they are just plants. David's Mom needs us. I will go and start over - again.

Now on to happier things - a photo tour of my garden. My garden always makes me feel better.

The cactus garden is starting to flower.

My Yarrow is almost ready to bloom. It has really started to take off this year.

  1. Man, Christy, I am sorry about the loss of your garden. I know you're doing the right thing, but wow. Good for you--picking family over any other choices. :) Hugs.

    1. Thanks...I just want to know why the right choice feels so bad. :(

  2. I'm so sorry to hear this. Dig up some plants and take them with you, you'll feel better once you get to your new home and you still have a piece of your old garden.

    1. I keep trying to pick what to take and what to leave behind. It is a hard choice!

  3. I'm so sorry to hear about this and wouldn't be easier to move her closer to you instead? moving one person vs uprooting entire family can be negotiated. That's nice that you want to help her but you're not her caretaker - you have your own family to think about and that inclused brand new house.

    1. We talked about moving her here but we do not have a hospital. The closest hospital and onclogist is almost two hours away. That doesn't work. Plus, we will have to care for my hubby's grandmother who lives with his parents. She is 80 and in a wheel chair. He is an only child so there isn't anyone else. Trust me - I have tried to find a way out.

  4. Oh, Christy, I could just cry for you! Hey, it's alright to feel bad about it now, and you have a really rough road ahead of you, but some day you will rest easy knowing you did the right thing.

Pot up some of those cacti, they move easily. And did you know when the potatoes blossom you can carefully dig under the plants with your fingers and pull out delicious baby potatoes? At least you should get something good to eat from the garden.

Will Tank be going with you?

Best of luck, sweetie. Hang in there!

    1. I have moved my poor cactus from Texas, to New Mexico, to South Dakota, to Florida, and then back to New Mexico. I guess they will survive one more trip!

I am excited about the baby potatoes and can not wait to try them.

And yes, Tank will go with me. He goes everywhere I go. The silly thing is even in my Will with a trust fund! I am sure he will enjoy a yard with grass and milder winters. Thank you for your support....It really does mean a lot.

    3. On a really big trailer? heehee

He has a 'box'. It is a rubbermaid container that is just 6 inches bigger than him. He can stay in it for several days without any problems. He spends most spring and fall nights in it.(when it is below 52 at night but warm in the day) He will just ride in the car with me.

  5. Wow, that's rough. It would break my heart to leave my garden. Those plants are like my children that don't talk back. ;) I sincerely hope the move goes well and that you settle into a happy new home quickly. Also that your husband's mom's (?) health improves soon.

Also, take those fabulous lilies. :)

    1. I hadn't really thought about the lilies but they would be easy to move! I am used to moving but I did not expect to move so soon. I wanted at least 5 years here. We will move into military housing for a while just to simplify things. Maybe we can buy a home next fall if things calm down a bit.
