Sick Tomatoes

I started out thinking my tomatoes were suffering from neglect. I had been gone for two weeks this last time and everything had been watered with timers and sprinklers. Yesterday I decided to take pictures and remove everything questionable.

Two small but healthy tomatoes.

Three weeks ago this was a healthy plant.

One very healthy tomato in the middle and two yellowing tomates on each end.

Well- the picture speaks for itself.

A very healthy tomato but if you look at some of the outer leaves they are starting to curl up.
I don't know what is going on. I have never had this much trouble growing tomatoes. I am starting to wonder if I will get any this year.

Anyone have any idea what is going on?

  1. too much water or not enough water?

  2. Have you been fertilizing them much? It could be a nutrition problem, like mine were having. Try giving them a good dose of compost tea and spritz it on the leaves too. Foliar feeding should improve them quickly if nutrition is the problem. Hope they perk up for you. It seems like this is just going to be a rough tomato year for everyone. :(

    1. Sounds like a plan. How do you make your compost tea? I have read a lot on it but everything says something different.

  3. looks like what I have, which local master gardeners are proclaiming to be verticillium wilt. no cure except planting resistant varieties, pull out and throw away (don't compost) the dead ones.
