Our House

After so many years in Military Housing we built our own home. I don't think we would have chosen New Mexico but the military decided this is were we need to be. We thought about buying an older home and fixing it up but a new home seemed like a better option. I did not want to be in the middle of a project and have David go away for six months. I don't want to do all the work by myself.

Here is our beautiful house during construction. I think I bothered the workers almost every day. I wanted lots of pictures to document our house. I also thought that building a home was a lot faster than it turned out to be. It took them eight months to complete our little house. I am scared to know how long it will take to build out forever home!

Here is our house on the day we closed! Look at the pretty green grass. We had grass and a sprinkler system installed in the front yard before we moved in. The green stops at the fence. The backyard is just dirt. Nothing has been done. I now get to design the backyard and I can not wait.

  3. Congrats. It makes it easy having the sod new. Now you can cut out sections. Roll 'em up. And put down a lovely front yard edible estate! ;)

    1. I am really lucky to have such a wonderful yard. I already have a huge planting bed by the house. I plan on mixing edibles and flowers there. Plus I am putting in raised beds in the backyard and a cactus garden near the road. I am so ready for spring so I can get started.

  4. I came here from Granny's blog. How exciting it will be to see from the ground up what you do with your garden! We moved three years ago across the country, not to a brand new house, but new to us, and I had to start over with the garden. I'll be interested to see what you grow in New Mexico, such a different environment from the PNW, where I live.

  5. Hello Cristy,

My hubby and I are from New Mexico. We lived there for 28yrs and raised our family there. We now live in Oklahoma and love living here too. Welcome to blog world.

  6. Oh look at that! From being bare to a cozy-looking house! Congratulations, Christy. Yay! One of the exciting parts of having a new home is creating your own garden. You can either have a flower garden or vegetable garden. Better yet, why not just have both? :) Good luck!
